Episode transcript, ShelbyRADIO ยท 27 minutes
Short answer: When your old life stops making sense, nothing has to change on the outside for everything to feel different on the inside. Your awareness is outgrowing the structure and routine you've been living in, and once you see that, you can't unsee it. You're not losing your life. You're outgrowing the version of it you've been living in, and trying to stay in a life that no longer fits creates tension in your body, emotions and mind. The way through isn't to blow up your life overnight, but to move forward slowly, with education and a process.

There's a moment you can't go back (00:00)
Have you ever felt a calling, something deep, something you can't quite explain, that's urging you to step into a higher version of yourself? There's a moment where you can't go back, even if you try. Your life still looks the same on the outside, but inside something has shifted. And once you see it, you can never unsee it.
Welcome to ShelbyRADIO. I am Shelby Carino, and today we're going to have an important conversation about the moment your old life stops making sense.
The truthful side of awakening (01:24)
This is a strong topic in the awakening community. You may have heard people talk about it, or you may be hearing it for the first time, because not everyone likes to discuss this part of spiritual awakening. It's the truthful side of awakening.
When we're going through a transition, we search for answers, yet we naturally want to hear all the good stuff. We put ourselves in the dream, the illusion, the positive feel-good information, because something in us as humans doesn't like to hear the harder truths while we're in a process. But when your old life stops making sense, this is not the time for rainbows and unicorns and chocolate chip cookies. This is the time you need the education of what this truly is, so you have the authority and the permission inside of you to move forward on the path you're already on.
Nothing has changed, yet everything feels different (03:16)
Let me paint this experience for you. You get up in the morning. You do your normal routine. You go to work, you talk to people, you live your life. Then all of a sudden something feels off. Nothing has changed, and yet everything feels different.
This is where your mind can't make sense of the feeling you're having inside your spirit, inside your energy. Energy does live in the mind, but until you educate the mind to understand the energy of what you're experiencing, it's like getting on and off highways in a figure-eight circle with no road map. It's confusion. This is the moment your awareness is outgrowing the structured life and normal routine you've been living.
Living in two worlds (05:08)
This is the part where I tell people you're living in two worlds. You're living in a world that is structured and routine to the best of its ability, and you're also living in a world of the unknown, a feeling that feels expansive, yet you can't put your finger on what it is.
That's why these topics are worth exploring, to get a baseline foundation of what's going on, so you can move into a deeper level of awareness and begin working the steps in the process. The moment your old life stops making sense is the moment to move into action and begin creating the life you want, the life your spiritual energy is moving you towards.
The in-between is a process of information, of energetic knowledge that your parts are seeking, as you learn how to rebuild a life that makes sense for you now. We're moving out of the mind and into the heart, and that's where we're being led. It's like learning life all over again, but in a much better way, because it's a more fulfilling way to live inspired. You're not thinking about having to do it. You're becoming what you say you've always wanted to embody.
You're not losing your life (07:28)
So let me put this very simply. You're not losing your life. You're outgrowing the version of it that you've been living in. Let me make that clear: you're not losing your life. You're outgrowing the version of it you were living in.
I'm speaking very slowly to the unconscious part of you. I'm putting this into the body so it lands and grounds within you, whatever level you're on in your journey of higher awareness, higher consciousness or spiritual awakening, however you want to term it. We all go through different layers at different times.
Values, tolerance and awareness shift (08:52)
If you're finding that your values are shifting, that what was once important to you isn't really that important anymore, or the other way around, that's okay. You're learning new values.
If your tolerance is shifting, that's okay too. It's supposed to. We're not meant to keep tolerating things we used to tolerate if they're no longer appropriate. Maybe that's part of why there are bigger problems on the planet, because we've tolerated things that don't need to be tolerated.
And your awareness expands. That expanding awareness is why you can't unsee what you've now seen, because now you have a picture in your mind that it exists. As you evolve, it's very important to get into an educational process with someone who has walked the journey, because they have the information to keep you from bumping your head in places that may not be necessary.
Why staying in the old structure creates tension (11:12)
Now, this is a very important piece. If you're still living in the old structure of life and you're no longer aligned with that structure, you're going to build tension in your world. Tension is discomfort. You're going to make your life uncomfortable.
Your body feels it, your emotions feel it and your mind tries to fix it. That's because you're trying to stay in a life that no longer fits you.
A story about balance (12:08)
Let me give you a quick story. There's a beauty in having a relationship with someone, especially when they balance another side of you. In my relationship with Joe, I would say I'm more of the risk taker. I live on faith: let's take the chance, what do we have to lose? Joe is more methodical. He wants to sit back, think about it and make sure it's the right thing to do. There's a balance in that between us.
Being a Pisces and more of a risk taker, I'll just jump in and get it done. So I've had to learn to slow down and listen to my intuition differently, because just because I feel something doesn't mean I need to jump on it immediately. My ability to move is much quicker, and through Joe's balance of logic I've learned to slow down and analyze the situation a little more. Blending that with my natural nature of taking a chance, and with my faith when I'm ready to move forward, I've built a strong foundation for moving from old structures into new structures much more easily.
Leaving my teaching job (14:00)
In our relationship, I'm usually the one who goes first in big changes, and then Joe follows. When I left my teaching job in December 2025, I had originally planned to leave later. I was trying to extend it by a month or so. But the minute I put in my resignation, my timeline sped up, within two weeks.
In those two weeks, it was as if everything in the old paradigm and structure of the teaching career I'd had my whole life was downloading in one fell swoop. I was getting bombarded with lesson after lesson about the old structure of a life I had built around teaching and that routine, and I was being challenged on every single thing. My body was feeling it. My emotions were feeling it. My mind was saying, "I can do this. I'm going to fix this."
And by the end of those two weeks, it was installed in me, in my body: wow, this is what it feels like to stay in a life that no longer fits you. That learning was like gold.
Watching Joe walk the same path (15:52)
Once I moved through that, guess what? It was Joe's turn. Now Joe is going through the same experience of retiring from what he does and giving himself permission to move into a life he's always wanted to live but never has. Earlier in his life he became a father, raised two boys and had to be the breadwinner. He had to keep going and going to support what he had created back then.
Now that Joe and I are through this process of our union and our awakening, at different levels, we have different opportunities coming in. Even though they're great opportunities, we still have to get comfortable walking away from an old structure of life to bring in the new one. It's been eye-opening to watch Joe walk through moments in his life that no longer make sense to him. You can tell he's not aligned with them anymore. You can tell where he gets tension, because there's discomfort in the transition. His body reacts, his emotions feel it, and his mind tries to fix something, and I tell him, "This no longer fits you."
We were at dinner the other night and he was telling me about things going on with some of his clients. He said, "These problems just keep coming up." I said, "That's your old pattern. When problems get created, you get to go in and fix them, and you get paid to fix them. But those problems don't need to be created for you anymore, because you're moving away from fixing problems in order to create income. Now you're creating no problems, with nothing to fix, living in inspiration and bringing in abundance differently." It was a reframe for him.
We all go through this, depending on what layer of the onion we're peeling. The deeper you get into your root, the more expansive your awareness becomes, which means the deeper the root is to pull out, because now you're getting to the core of what built that structure in your life a long time ago.
Why people try to go back (19:08)
There's a human flaw in this experience, and it's why people try to go back to the old structure. They try to go back by ignoring it: "Oh, this isn't happening." They try to distract themselves from it. Then they try to say, "I'm just going to live a normal life," and yet it doesn't feel the same anymore. There's no joy in it.
Some people try to go back to old conversations they used to have with people. They try to feel the same motivation: "If I just get up and do this, I'll feel motivated." But that's a routine that's no longer available to you. Your mind may keep wanting to go back into it, but that doesn't mean your body, your emotions and your energy are okay with it, because that routine existed maybe 20 years ago, 15 years ago, eight years ago, two years ago. Now it's null and void.
Awareness is irreversible (20:32)
Once you see it, and it's you expanding, you don't get to go back to not seeing it. So I said to Joe, "Once you saw what your life could be outside of what you've done your entire life, you can't unsee that. That means God, Source, all that you're connected to, is saying it's time to walk away. It's time for you to have everything you said you wanted. And it's going to be a process to get there, because awareness changes everything."
All of this is irreversible. You don't go back. You have to move forward. And it's funny how hard it is to move forward when you're not used to moving forward. But this becomes the beginning of real change. This is where you finally get to feel relief in your energy field, because a different truth is coming in that's vibrating with the authentic part of you and where you're headed.
You don't need to blow up your life overnight (21:56)
As I close this out, I want you to know this doesn't mean you need to blow up your life overnight. It's a process. You want to do things slowly and methodically, in the new way and the new structure. This is about understanding what's happening. That's the education. And through the education you also receive the frequencies, because I've been there. That's why I created it.
So you're not lost. You're just in the transition to being more aligned. I even recommend you go back and listen to this episode as many times as you need until you get that understanding. This isn't just, "My awareness expanded, I feel everything, I'm going to go be free and live life and do whatever." Then you have no direction, and that gets old, because there's no plan. The energy will take you everywhere but where you're trying to go.
Trust me, so many clients have come to me feeling airy-fairy, saying, "I don't know what happened." I tell them, "I know, I get it. Let's put you into the process." And then they say, "Oh wow, this is so much better," and their nervous system calms down.
What comes next (24:16)
Here's what I want you to know about the next phase. After the moment your old life stops making sense, once you've seen it and can't unsee it, this is where things start to shift in your relationships. Some of you already understand what I'm saying, because you're experiencing it. Next, I'll be talking about the loneliness of awakening.
That was a big one. I live a good life within these transitions, and we all can. It can be calm and peaceful. Remember, the journey doesn't end here. It's only the beginning. I'll see you on the path.
Frequently asked questions
Why does my life suddenly feel wrong when nothing has changed?
Your awareness is outgrowing the structure and routine you've been living in. On the outside your life looks the same, but inside something has shifted, and your mind can't make sense of that feeling until it understands the energy of what you're experiencing.
Is it normal to feel like you're living in two worlds during awakening?
Yes. Many people feel caught between a structured, familiar routine and an expansive feeling they can't name yet. That in-between is part of the process of rebuilding a life that makes sense for who you're becoming.
Can I go back to my old life after a spiritual awakening?
Not really. Once you've seen something, you can't unsee it. Ignoring it, distracting yourself or forcing old routines and conversations usually brings tension instead of the joy you used to feel. The way through is forward.
Do I have to change everything at once?
No. You don't need to blow up your life overnight. Move slowly and methodically, with education and a process, so your new structure has a strong foundation.
